These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Farm Animal Transparency (“FAT”) website, tools, content, and services (collectively, the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Services.

1. Who We Are

Farm Animal Transparency (“FAT”) is an educational and analytical project focused on improving transparency in animal protein labeling and agricultural production practices.

2. Eligibility and Scope

By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18 years old and capable of entering into a binding agreement. These Terms apply to all users and visitors of the Services.

3. Intellectual Property

All content, research, scoring frameworks, text, graphics, algorithms, evaluation logic, and design elements associated with FAT are owned by or licensed to FAT and/or its founder, Dirk Adams, and protected by intellectual property laws. This includes:

Label categories, definitions, and explanations
FAT scoring methods and evaluation logic
Website text, research, and analysis
Graphics, icons, charts, and layout design
Software, scanning logic, and data structures

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Services for personal and non-commercial purposes only.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

Copy, reproduce, or redistribute substantial portions of the Services
Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive application logic or scoring methods
Scrape, crawl, or extract data using automated tools or bots
Create derivative or competing scoring systems or databases using FAT content
Disrupt, damage, or interfere with the operation of the Services
Use the Services for unlawful, fraudulent, or misleading purposes

5. No Professional Advice

The Services are provided for informational purposes only. They do not constitute:

Legal advice
Financial or investment advice
Veterinary or animal welfare advice
Medical or nutritional advice

6. AI Assistance Disclosure

Some content is prepared with the assistance of artificial intelligence and reviewed by humans. You acknowledge that AI-assisted materials may contain errors and use them at your own risk.

7. Third-Party Content

The Services may reference third-party data, links, or materials. FAT does not endorse or control third-party content and is not responsible for it.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” FAT and Dirk Adams disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, FAT and Dirk Adams shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Services.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FAT and Dirk Adams from any claims arising out of your use of the Services or violation of these Terms.

11. Changes

FAT may modify these Terms or the Services at any time. Updated versions will include a revised “Last Updated” date. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of Montana. You consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of Montana courts.

13. Termination

FAT may suspend or terminate your access to the Services at any time. Sections that reasonably should survive termination will continue to apply.
